26/05/2008, 1:07 AM ironsmad Joined on 12/03/2008 Posts 131 YOBS AND KNIFE CULTURE What is going wrong with teenagers these past few years,soon as scuffle breaks out ,someone pulls a blade.As another young man dies in the street on a night out.It must feel all decent parents with fear when they go out for a good night,will my son come home tonight or will we get a knock on the door from the police.Who and what is to blame is it the booze and drugs or bad parenting.Lack of police on the streets ?Crap judges when they get caught handing out soft sentences.My answer is bring back borstal for such crimes and 5years for just having a knife on them.This government  lacks the steel and will to put this scum in prison and the Tory's at present are just as weak,I would arm the police so all good people felt safe when out and about.    Report

26/05/2008, 11:20 AM GreenBlue Joined on 24/05/2008 Posts 85 Re: YOBS AND KNIFE CULTURE Borstals are too expensive and will become like prisons with too many human rights. ie cable tv, plasma screens etc. My solution is send them out to Ascension Island or the Falklands to fix the runways; some basic training or training them up to use their trophy blades to clear a few mines. Or 5 years in a recycling centre sorting plastic bottles, broom in hand, and generally making themselves useful. These young guys (this tends to be the typical gang member) tend to have too much energy, superego,  liberty and unguided time on their hands.    Report

Norwich isnt much different to any other city and the yob culture is just a sign of the times and will only be replaced by another threatening culture. I lived in northampton, a town suffocated by this kind of activity. I was targeted by the local yobs who proceeded to smash/steal my precious possessions which took me years to save up for. The garden was ripped apart and our van was vandalised so much, we had to park it at the other side of town. My bike, transport for work? burned out at the bottom of the road. the unprovoked attack on my home culminated in 30screaming yobs (the police counted them) launching an attack on my home one evening, the front door booted in, one yob entered, and all the time me and my partner (who also suffers from depression) were screaming for help in the bedroom. No one helped, the police turned up 40minutes later...I now have a list of crime ref nos as long as your arm. As i dont sleep much i noticed that each night, the yobs would go into each and every garden, down the front paths, climbing over the side gates, checking on whats new and whats nickable, forget trying to have a nice home. 3 petitions, a meeting with the mayor, endless emails to newspapers/mp/council/police. We knew the ringleaders and we knew where they lived, 200yards away. the result is nothing, we had to get a move quick so i chose the next exchange to anywhere, from our large 3bed huge garden, to a 2bed rabbit hutch with back yard. I would have moved anywhere to escape the torment. I really feel sorry for all the other residents, the pensioners who darent even go to the corner shop during the day, who sit and wait for that stone to come through the window or their new garden purchase to disappear. 18months ago we moved to brighton and the events in northampton are haunting us daily. Victim Support? what a useless service, all they do is phone you from time to time and ask if you feel ok, if you dont its a "never mind" and "there there" what help is that? All i can say is to move away from built up areas, the problem is only going to get worse, remember the skinheads, rockers.mods,punks?  at least they kept the violence between the gangs and never picked on gentle folk in the street or in their own homes. If you have problems, dont expect any help other than to get a group of men together and frighten the living daylights out of these yobs with "learning difficulties" ( thats a politically correct way of saying "dodgy")      Report

03/06/2008, 2:41 PM ironsmad Joined on 12/03/2008 Posts 131 Re: YOBS AND KNIFE CULTURE The trouble is if you have a go back at these scummy chavs.The local plods tend to arrest you instead of chav TWiTs ,I have had a problem twice in 12 years with yobs.One I caught who had climbed over the fence who chose to go back over the fence the same way but a lot quicker after he realized that my dog and myself intended to find out if the waiting at the local hospital for accidents +emergency had gone down.The second time 3 years after the first I threw some punches at 3 yobs who had climbed on my wife's car.Some times you have to face up to scum or hide  in fear.Plus you run the risk of being kicked too death out side your home.This is a sigh of broken Britain.America for some reason don't have the same problems as any one coming on to your property who you have not invited tends to get a bullet in the head .As Tony Martin found out . The powers that be don't like it when you fight back.    Report

I tried to hire a guard dog, intending to bill the council but the company didnt want to get involved. we had the curtains closed for months, shopping was done in the early hours of the morning, thank goodness for 24hr shops. we did nothing to warrant the attacks and we are not the only people on the estate to suffer, i have 60 statements from just one street. They couldnt get over the fence so they went under, pulling up the corners of the panels until they snapped. metal shed? they bent up the doors and helped themselves. we left a 75x35ft garden with all the stuff, 2 pallets of ornamental bricks, a large hexagonal pond with lights, standard fuschias plus all my other plants, 10 x 8 green house, 2 sheds,wishing well, gazebo, two large patios we broke our backs over, my new honda 90, a vauxhall combo, fruit cage, brand new polytunnel 20x10 Its not easy saving benefits to buy stuff but we were trying to make a lovely home. Its all been destroyed thanks to the yobs and thanks to the authorities who turned a blind eye to our suffering. If we get the same again, look out in the papers cos im willing to do time if i can just get one hoody off the planet. I will feel better knowing ive stuck up for myself. Isnt it a rediculous situation, easily put right but shoved under the council/police/mp carpet.   50yards away they set fire to a car just outside a house, they hide up until the fire brigade have left and then re ignite the car. I have quite a collection of weapons and chemicals, but my fave will be the cable ties and im ready to use them. Ever heard of death by tourniquet? very slow and very painful.  I really hope someone prints my comments somewhere where the authorities can see. I might get time in prison but its my first offence, im just protecting myself, im only little and they are bigger than me, i feared for my life. ah yes ive got all the answers ready. What else have i got to live for, theres no point  working and saving for stuff for other people to enjoy, and its not as if you can get away from it......    Report

Before the trouble started with the yobs i was suffering mental illness, brought on by some nasty experiences, you would probably be in a worse state than me if you had the same life. Its strange i havent had treatment only pills, because my partner didnt slip through any net, there was no lack of communication between the health professionals. hes been having treatment for the past 4 and a half years. I have begged for treatment but to no avail. let me give you an example, how many pills does it take to cure someone who has had their children groomed and taken by their grandmother who wanted a chance at a second family for herself, had the money, had a bullying daughter, had transport and lived far enough away i couldnt do anything about it. she already tried to take my other sisters (rest in peace) son but failed because my sister had more backup and her son hadnt had his view distorted so much he thought his mum was sh### the medical profession seem to think pills are the answer but what do i do when im at a funeral and my daughters are standing with my mother on the other side of the room giving me dark looks. erm would it take a rocket scientist to see i need counselling? Hey lets make her wait a few years and then make her pay out of her benefits for treatment. you think i need help, i need an explanation.................    Report

Police responses are too long, 20-40 mins. Millicent 5 years ago, 3 of my family died prematurely. That was a dark place with no explantion. I won't compare it. I spent some time at counselling at The Norwich Centre, Earhlam Road, it was hugely helpful, free if are unable to contribute; contribute if you can basis. I didn't bother with going to my GP or pills, I just got up and walked right in to counselling to unlock stuff (Cognitive/Behavioural).  My GP I choose to leave out, as I knew it would be a temporary crutch and likely revolving door. Content, out of the woods, I'm glad I made my choice. It proved the right one for me.      Report

You spend years curled up at home, sleep is elusive,your hearts pounding, your fists clench, your teeth gritted, you cry when it gets tiring, you have a 4hour rest and start all over again.  food why bother?, wash why bother? whats the point? You ruminate cos theres no one to talk you through your problems, no one to explain how to deal with the thoughts and events. the medical profession treats the symptoms  but not the cause which wastes years off a persons working/social quality of life. the gp gives you pills "come back in 3months", this gets repeated again and again and before you know it, a year has passed, then 2. then........ Im trying to get home to my family in norwich, see my thread "who are they trying to keep out" been trying a long time now. but when i do i will definitely go to the norwich centre on earlham road, i was born on robson road and lived as a single parent off elizabeth fry road,  so i know that part of the city well. I used to take my girls strawberry picking down the road at the back of the uea. It sounds like they know what they are doing at that centre, treating the cause. i wish i were there now, the sooner i can climb out of this dark hole, the better. why doesnt everybody get this treatment? its scandalous. thankyou so much for the referral green blue, you have helped me more than you know. big kiss x      Report

I think they judge everyones details and assign suitable consellors on a individual criteria. Off it went, very professional, friendly and huge help.    Report
