"Secondly, why on earth would someone like that kenneth guy want to come on this forum and scare the 14 year olds off and pick on everything they do/say??"

Well, you clearly didn't read my comments very carefully. But no matter; I wish all 14 year olds (and others) the very best in their endeavours, I hope they study hard, do well, get good jobs, and that they all lead healthy, useful and productive lives.

Re: RE: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???

Jason on reading most of the comments, replies and pointless insults that have been bandied about! nobody has actually tried to answer your question.

The problem is Jason the law as it stands makes it very difficult for an employer to actually employ you. Being just fourteen years of age is already a dissadvantage. The law is very strict on young people of your age being employed.( its actually designed to protect you and me) And the hours you would be allowed to work again are restricted. That also can become a problem for any employer. He may require someone to work longer hours than you are allowed.

You then have laws covering health and safety. they drives us all  nuts, but  they are emplaced not only to protect you but also your employer.

Another problem you will have is, you are unskilled. This will severely restrict any work you might want to do. (this leads back to health and safety.) For instance you would not be allowed to operate any machinery without the correct training. But then you have to be old enough to receive that training!

You can probably see it doesn't look to good for you on trying to get that job you are after. Apart from paper rounds and delivering leaflets, your scope for future employment at your age is not particulary good.

That doesn't mean you give up! keep looking and keep on trying! There is something out there waiting for you!

why is there no jobs for 14 to 15 year olds people complain that they corse so much trouble !! is there any body out there that will offer jobs to people like me if so please tell me coz i cant relie on my parents all the time to buy me the tings that i need  please please please tell me if i can work for you

i need you to give me a job

                                   THANX!

i am also 14 and looking for help.

To be perfectly honist with you i am not the best speller as you can see, i do believe jason asked for anyone who can offer a job for ''people like him''. He never said he was a high level well spoken English student, did he.?as am i, maby not but young children such as myself, need to be understood many adults these days dont listen to what we are trying to ask.Just because we are young and maby havnt had as much experiences as many of you does not meen we are uncapable of anything we are asking for.

I do have a problem with reading and writing and yes as many of you have stated we do try are hardest,it is not our falt we have these difficulties. But does it realy get in the way of us trying to earn our own money to take a bit of the slak off of our pearents..?i believe some of you are missing the point and are forgetting we are still only young.Everyday many of us get moaned at for; 'hanging around the streets,' 'getting into mistriff.' Maby if you gave us a chance then we could show you wrong. I have found many sites which help young children to get a job of their own. They might not be the best or enjoyable jobs but that is life these days, no one sayed it was easy.

I was talkin to my teacher one day, she explained to me that it doesnt matter how old or brainy you are manners are all you need. She told me that she believes what different people go through in life rubs off on how mature you are.she said,'i have watched many students grow up and go through things they never needed to experience, but now that the have they have grown up to be polite mature sencible young adults.

I have grown up with 4brothers and sisters also 3 step,my dad died a yr ago(we wont go into my family problems)all i am trying to say is us young people also go through alot, allwe want to do is make our familys proud and sort things outfor ourselfs instead of reling on everyone else to live our lives for us and sort out or problems and mistakes.all i ask for s a chance, help us to become young mature adults, set us a good example, dont let us down and teach us to be crul and insulting to our pears. All we ask for is advice,if you cant give it too us then fair enouth, just dont insult us, or better yet say nuthing atall.

good look everyone

Thank you kerry x

Re: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???
i think this is funny how older people are critisizing younger people for their spelling And even though i did special tests to do my english gsce's earlie,i am not a great speller i admit. But dont older people have better things to do than bring britains youth down because they make mistakes, After we do so much for you aswell i am disgusted. Anyway i am a 13 year old and waiting to be 14 in november so i can work in my local pub im not sure if i am aloud but i have my hopes up, Im not even bothered how much i get paid i just want a way to pass the time. At the moment i get paid £10 for looking after my next door neibours cat for the weekends that they go away,I think this is good pay just for looking after a cat, Maby you could find somethin like this. And i am not being a hypocrit for saying this but if you really want a job so much then go and find one and stop searching on the internet, Im sure adults would be more than happy to help you too especialy parents who just want you to go out anyway. Also if it has been two years since there was a first post on this topic then the person who posted it will be 16 now anyway wont be? so he wont need anymore advice.

Good luck anyway xx

Re: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???

I too am disgusted at how some people have been treated here. I can understand that asking the question in text language was probably not the best idea and may have given a bad impression but it is unnacceptable to insult someone due to their spelling.  The ability to spell is not a measure of haw nice a person is or intelligence for that matter.  I am 15 and about to enter year 11.  I have taken 2 of my GCSEs early and am predicted an A in english (along with As and A stars in all other subjects i am taking) but i cannot spell for toffee without having to think very hard about what i am writing  i cannot tell the time or tell right from left either).  I too am searching for a job and it is not feasably possible for me to do a paper round as i live ina small village without a postoffice.  I am eagerly awaiting when i become 16 to get a job as i have been unable to find one for someone of my age.  However i have nearly a year to wait untill then and i am eager to begin earning money as soon as possible.  I want a job so that i can save money to go to university.  By no means are my family particularly poor however it is going to be very hard to afford to send me to university  i am hoping to take a foundation course in fine arts before studying law, a strange mix i know but i enjoy art and would like to go in a more artistic job but hold no illusions that art will provide me with a steady job, therefore i would love to train to become a barristor which i have also wanted to do for years).  I would like to leave home to go to college preferably on of the many art colleges in London) but it is very unlikely i will be allowed for reasons i have already mentioned.

I have gone off on a tangent i know but i find it necessary to express the above.

I'm 14 too and it really offends me at what kenneth wrote about gcses;

'And as for those GCSE's, I understand they give those away in cereal packages these days. '

I would have to say that he is talking complete rubbish when he says that, we all work just as hard as any other generations did but now we have better methods of learning which gives us higher grades.

I think its good that Jason wants to work to get money rather than ask his parents all the time, I'm planning to start babysitting because I know lots of young kids as I help at a sunday school and i know a lot of my little brother's friends

RE: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???
I would just like to say I agree completely with Rhys_123 on the matter of the poor use of grammar of teenagers today. I am a 15 year old girl also searching for a job, and I think that the English language is being defiled by the countless teenagers (and some adults too) who simply don't care about grammar, spelling or punctuation.

On the subject of finding a job, Jason, go to your town or city centre and go into all the shops in which you can visualise yourself working happily. It does not matter whether or not they have vacancies, because many places will take your details for future vacancies. Dress smartly and ask politely if they hire people your age, but prepared to hear "No". Persistance is vital if you are determined on finding a place to work. It may be helpful to write a CV and bring several copies with you on your expedition, although there are establishments that do not accept them and will require you to fill in an application form instead. After you have applied for as many jobs as you would like, all you can do is wait. Remember that you are not guaranteed to be called back at all, but the more applications you make, the higher your chances.

Re: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???

Hey There!

I can understand what your going through. I am also looking for a job and i always get the same replies.."sorry we don't hire anyone under 16" or "I'll call back once the rota has been checked" not to my suprise that i never recieve one..

People under estimate the youth of today. Our education skills are higher than they have ever been and although people may say that GCSE's are easier than ever, which may possibly be true, it's also due to the fact that education has improved and we are actually learning at a faster rate. We have a broader understanding of the working world and have experience in many area's.

Althoguh the law enables 14 year olds to work, many businesses chose not to.

Nobody seems to understand how hard it is for people are age. They say "When i was your age i didn't need to buy new things all the time" yet they still complain about us growing up faster and acting older than our age. We are capable and if not more capable than many people in their 20s. Im doing my math GCSE's a year early and i have won £100 for having the most entrepeneurial potential through re-branding and marketing the Aylsham Food Festival for this year. Im taking part in a youth chamber at my school and am top of all my classes. Yet none of this plays to my advantage as no one gives us a chance. Surely the fact that we're willing to work should prove something?!

People wonder why teens end up shop lifting and stealing, although i agree that it's wrong, i can see why. If we cant get the jobs, if prices stay as high as they are now, and fashion and image is so important today, then what else are we suppose to do?

People also get the image of tiny children, immature and whining however this is not the case. Many people say i'm mature for my age and my friends are too. We are the future britain. Many of us want to help families aswell. Not everyone own's a business you know.

So next time a 14 year old rings up and you have vacancies, give them a chance, an interview. You can decide what you think then and we dont have qualifications but we do have our teacher's who can tell you exactly what were like. You'll be suprised.

I know this is a bit of an essay but i have my views and feel someone needs to do something to help. I need a job and i hope that this blogger gets one soon too! Good luck!

Thank you

Amy

Yes [Y] Re: Why are ther no jobs for 14 and a half year olds???
I am a 14 yr old girl my school recomends that we do not get jobs once we have started coming very close to our GCSE but i see no harm in a saturday job. The problem is getting buisnesses to hire you. I understand your problem i want to be a doctor when i am younger and the more exsperience i get from the "working" world the better. HOWEVER! hairdressers will employ most 14 yr olds for clean up, washing and drink making dutys. Fortunatly my work exsperience is next year. It is hard to be 14 if you want a job but if some 14 yr olds start "having a go" at adults you can hardly exspect respect for our age group! Thats moving away from the point. Just stick to your studys, babysitting is a great way to earn money most parents pay £20 for four hours in which you'll watch television, do homework and maybe read a bedtime story.
