Manager Glenn Roeder insists defender Jason Shackell has a key role to play for Norwich City - after reports of a shock £1m bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hucks in talks with Toronto
Ex-City star Darrren Huckerby was expected to open talks with Toronto FC yesterday about a possible move to the Canadian MLS side. Toronto general manager, former Scotland star Mo Johnston, said that Huckerby had some “slight concerns” about the state of the club's playing surface with regards to his injury situation, but believed they were not serious.

Hollman could plot City downfall
A former member of Glenn Roeder's backroom staff could soon be plotting against him - with the Canaries biggest rivals. Goalkeeping coach James Hollman, whose departure last winter was shrouded in mystery, has been interviewed for the vacant position at Ipswich.

King's Lynn 66, Birmingham 24 Lynn exacted brutal revenge on the bedraggled Brummies at the Norfolk Arena last night. Rob Lyon's men restored lost pride after Birmingham's shock early season Premier Trophy success had wrecked the club's march to a century of competitive home wins.

Norfolk ring the changes
New-look Norfolk face Hertfordshire tomorrow with skipper Carl Rogers insistent that his side can cope with the absence of some key players. Carl Amos, Jaik Mickleburgh and Ben Patston are all missing from the batting line-up while spinner George Walker and seamer Mark Thomas are also unavailable, so Norfolk have handed a debut to Fakenham paceman Ben Smart, with batsmen Ollie Higenbottam and Rob Purton both making just their second county appearance.

Record entry for Norwich Triathlon
A record number of athletes will take part in the Norwich Triathlon with two races taking place on the day. Hundreds of athletes will be lining up tomorrow morning to compete in an Olympic distance triathlon and a “sprint”, at Whitlingham.
