Regular items in our listings
We no longer take weekly listings "on trust" in
the Evening News and EDP. Since April 2002 we have required
a list of dates for regular items, in an effort to keep listings
up-to-date and accurate in our papers and on our websites.
Entries such as "every Monday until further notice"
are no longer accepted since the introduction of our listings
database. If we did, we'd be telling users of websites' listings
facilities that an event would be taking place several months
down the line when we had no way of knowing for sure.

If you have a regular item, please use phrases such as "every
Monday from January to April" when telling us about it
- and remember to send us an update before your old list expires!
The period your lists cover is up to you (we suggest 2 to
4 months) but please take into account dates affected by public
holidays, school holidays, your personal holidays and suchlike.
Regular listings tips
If your programme is fully planned for the year, you can happily
send us the complete list of activities. We're happy to receive
a copy of programmes you may already provide to your regular
visitors/members. Cross out anything where the general public
are not welcome so we don't include it.
If you have an item that is the same each week, there is no
need to list every date. Something like the following is perfect:
WI market, 8.50am-12 at (Town and Venue)
Every Friday, April 5 to June 28, 2002
If the event does not take place on certain days, just add
something like:
Not taking place on Good Friday, March 29, 2002
If you have a fortnightly event, you can keep your submissions
short as well:
Line dance, 7.30pm £3 at (Town and Venue)
Fortnightly, Friday April 5 to May 17, 2002
Likewise, if your event takes place on a certain day each
month:
Line dance, 7.30pm £3 at (Town and Venue)
Second Wednesday each month, April to December, 2002
If there are minor changes, you can do lists like this:
Norfolk Western Line Dance Club
Meetings on Fridays at (Town and Venue), 7.30pm £5
2002 guest bands:
April 6 - Tumbleweed
May 4 - Howlin' Hillbillies
June 8 - Yee-Hah Allstars
July 6 - John Wayne and the Horseriders

Final notes
Listings are included at the editor's discretion, and are
subject to space and circulation area in the papers. Note
that we cannot guarantee an entry. All listings which have
met input deadlines appear our websites.
Currently the Evening News publishes a seven-day guide on
Fridays, and tonight/tomorrow (daytime) listings on other
publication days. The EDP publishes an eight-day guide - Event
magazine - on Fridays and includes daily listings on other
publication days.
Additional ideas to promote a successful event:
- Use local noticeboards;
- Contact weekly newspapers, community magazines and radio
stations;
- Hand out leaflets;
- Tell everyone you know to come along - and ask them to
bring their friends!
