10 reasons to save the post offices

The
post office is a lifeline to many local residents, especially
the elderly some of whom cannot travel any further to
access facilities.
2.
They provide a wide range of services, not just the
opportunity to post a letter, such as car tax and passport
applications, which would be made much more time consuming
if offices close.
3.
Small local businesses rely on the services provided
by the post offices.
4.
Shops near to the post offices often
benefit from the custom of those who travel to them.
5.
Most post offices have car parking available for those
who struggle with mobility, but ones like the Castle
Mall do not.
6.
The Castle Mall post office already has lengthy queues,
which will only get worse if others close.
7.
Some post offices also provide other services,
such as cash machines, which again are handy for those
who cannot go far.
8.
They provide a good meeting place for people
in the area and help to maintain a sense of community
spirit.
9.
The closing down of these buildings would, in the short
term at least, result in the creation of boarded up
shops, making these areas less attractive and blighting
our fine city.
10.
If local post offices are closed, many
people will have to travel to get to their nearest branch,
which in the long term is harmful to the environment
and contribute towards congestion.
